Human Assets Institute

Overview

Human Assets Institute (HAI) is a not-for-profit research and development group for Pathways.

Other Pathways units specialize in technologies such as healthcare, personal training, consultation, or knowledge management.  When new solutions are needed, HAI organizes study groups to recommend actions such as new product development or basic research.

HAI works independently on new Pathways initiatives, organizes study teams, acts as a contracted consultant to develop new technologies, or develops and manages funded research.

Organization and Management

HAI organizes independent project teams as needed to complete selected development or research initiatives.  As an internal task group, HAI does not maintain its own staff, management system, or marketing, sales, and product support functions.  All these services are provided by the Pathways management group.

Projects and Operations

HAI enters contracts with companies, government, or private clients to develop new products, services, or research projects.

For example, Pathways contracted with the National Library of Medicine Specialized Information Services Division to lead the development of new Information Management Systems to facilitate detection, assessment, and case management of Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Traumatic Brain Disorder problems experienced by soldiers or civilians affected by disasters.  HAI contracts with Pathways to support these initiatives by providing project management and research teams.

HAI is developing new Health Services Research initiatives through a collaborative arrangement with Howard University.  These projects are designed to study the effectiveness of SCHIP clinical services, pre-discharge training for patients returning home after cardiovascular admissions, and community-based stress adaptation programs for veterans living in areas distant from VA and DOD services.

HAI is developing mobile stress management programs for Consumer Health Advisers, a new company that provides employees personal databases and health self-management decision support.

HAI also has internal responsibility for developing new Pathways intellectual properties such as organizational structure and content for automated online natural language medical interviews that will be produced by Pathways Linguistic Technologies.

HAI is also the Pathways Research and Development group responsible for creating all Pathways intellectual properties.  For example, HAI is developing the structure and content for automated online natural language medical diagnostic and educational interviews to be produced by the Pathways Linguistic Technologies Group.

After HAI intellectual properties are developed by independent HAI project teams, ownership is held by HAI and the properties or licensed for use by Pathways or partnering companies.
